Medically Handicapped Children’s Program (MHCP)
The program that serves the needs of children with disabilities by paying for non-medical services such as home modifications, child care for siblings, and respite. These services need to be related to the child’s disability. A worker helps the family develop a plan for the needed services.
Disabled Person and Family Support Program
The program provides up to $300 a month of funding for services to individuals with disabilities to help them continue to live independently or help families stay together.
Social Services for Aged and Disabled Adults
This program enables persons to be as self-sufficient as possible and remain in their own home or apartment. Services also support unpaid caregivers so they may continue providing unpaid services to the client.
Community Action Agencies
Nebraska has nine community action agencies located across the state that offer support to low-income individuals and families. Services can include economic assistance, employment supports, loans and education programs.

This is a database that helps identify community resources by zip code. A wide range of services are available, from basic needs, to child care, housing and job supports.
NE Department of Health and Human Services Financial Assistance Programs
The state of Nebraska offers many programs that provide support to people with disabilities, and individuals/families with financial needs.
NE Department of Health and Human Services Emergency Assistance Program
Emergency assistance helps with money and/or services for needy children and other household members when there’s an emergency situation. The program helps when the situation is threatening to the health or well-being of an eligible child and family.
The Nebraska Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
The program helps people with limited incomes offset the cost of heating and cooling their homes. The program will partially pay the cost of electricity, fuel oil, gas, coal, wood, kerosene, propane or other fuel sources.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
Individuals who are blind or disabled (or children with disabilities) who have little income or resources may be eligible for SSI benefits.
Enable Savings Plan
In December 2014, the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act was signed into law authorizing individuals with disabilities to open tax-exempt savings accounts to save for disability-related expenses without impacting eligibility for resource-based benefits. The act permits individuals with disabilities to save more than a total of $2,000 in assets (cash, savings, etc.) in their name in a qualified ABLE account.
Assistive Technology Partnership
Funding for the cost of home modifications, assistive technology or services needed by consumers who experience a disability is not directly provided by ATP. Funding may be available from numerous programs. Examples include disability-related organizations, government programs, and non-profits, etc.
Each resource has their own eligibility requirements. Requirements may include age, residence, disability, income, request, etc. Funding amounts also vary and it may require several resources to fund what is needed

Nebraska Rental Assistance
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) offers rental assistance for individuals who have lower incomes.
Nebraska Housing Authority Agencies
Provides a list of housing authorities in the state that help advocate in assisting lower-income family, elderly and disabled residents with their housing needs as clients are striving to achieve self-sufficiency or independent living.
Family Housing Advocacy Services
This program provides homelessness assistance, foreclosure prevention and financial management services to individuals and families with low to moderate incomes.
