Adult Programs
Recreational therapy services for adults are available to all individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through the UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute department of recreational therapy. Some programs are for adults 18 and older while some are for adults over the age of 21. Please check specific program pages for details.
Our adult services are provided by professionals trained in recreational therapy and who are passionate about transforming the lives of individuals with disabilities and complex health care needs. Adult participants also have social opportunities to interact with peers, activity technicians and typically developing adult volunteers.
- We promote FITNESS by recognizing that physical activity is important to health and wellness and comes in many different forms.
- We promote FUN by promoting inclusive accessible leisure activities at MMI and in the community.
- We promote FUNCTION by partnering to work with you rather than on you.
Adult recreation therapy programs have a fee to participate and scholarships may be available.
Please note these programs are not designed to serve individuals who have severe behavioral problems such as aggressive acts towards others, self-injurious behaviors and/or destruction of property (throwing and/or damaging furniture and equipment).
