The Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) Department of Psychology offers practicum and externship opportunities to current graduate students. Externships are designed for graduate students completing their PhD in Clinical, School, or Counseling Psychology. Externs gain experience in outpatient behavioral family and individual therapy in primary care clinics for concerns including:
- Non-compliance
- Sleep disturbances
- Toilet training
- Elimination disorders
- Anxiety, depression
- Developmental disabilities
- Parent training
- Obsessive compulsive disorder
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Academic concerns
Graduate students completing a practicum or externship may participate in ongoing research projects with opportunities to develop and complete research using single-subject research designs. Externs may also participate in professional development activities, as well as, attend clinical seminars and grand rounds. Some externs participate in our AmeriCorps program, which offers a small stipend and tuition remission.
Students may participate in varying training opportunities including:
- a summer externship, which typically consists of 150 to 300 hours between May 1 and August 1; and/or
-
an academic-year externship, which typically involves 1 to 2 days per week for either the fall semester, spring semester, or both.
