Project Initiation
All projects in the MMS core begin with a free consultation.
During this meeting, MMS core staff and investigators discuss the major goals of the project and appropriate workflows, methods, instrumentation, and software required to achieve the project goals. Following the consultation, the MMS core will prepare a Project Intake Summary which includes detailed plans for sample preparation, data acquisition, and data analysis and an estimate of costs and timeline. Additional project planning consultations may be required for highly complex projects. Once the Project Intake Summary is approved by the investigator, investigators will receive instructions for how to deliver samples to the core and the work can begin.
All protocols and experimental records are shared by MMS core to investigators via eLab, a secure electronic notebook. Upon completion of the project, raw data files, analyzed data files, and project results will be made available to investigators via Box.
Grant Resource Insert Statement
Facilities and equipment documents can be requested by emailing MMSCore@unmc.edu
We strongly encourage all grant writers to contact Dr. Gundry to request assistance with preparing the methods text, appropriate citations for methods, budget justifications, and letters of support to strengthen the application. Please contact Dr. Gundry at least two weeks or more before the internal grant deadline to request the documents appropriate for your application.
Data Management & Sharing Plans
DMSP documents for NIH grants can be requested by emailing MMSCore@unmc.edu
Acknowledgement Statement
Expectations for manuscript authorship and acknowledgement are defined in the Project Intake Summary Form and agreed upon by the investigator before work can begin. For publications containing data generated in the MMS core, we follow recommendations put forth by the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities (www.abrf.org) when determining whether MMS Core staff should be included as co-authors or acknowledged.
Independent of MMS core authorship, in all cases, manuscripts resulting from data generated within the MMS core must include the following text in the acknowledgements:
“Mass spectrometry analyses were performed by the University of Nebraska Medical Center Multiomics Mass Spectrometry Core Facility (RRID: SCR_012539).”
