Child Preference for Feeding Treatment
Feasibility and Efficacy of Assessing Child Preference for Feeding Treatment Using Choice Assessment is a research study to explore the effectiveness of a choice assessment in feeding therapy for children with autism. Through this process, we are hoping to determine a child's preferences of different feeding methods and determine which method might be most beneficial for improving their feeding habits.
IRB# 835-23-EP
Participation in the study is expected to last up to 3 weeks, with ideally three one-hour appointments in the afternoon or evenings each week. During the study, you and your child would participate in three different types of meal sessions, each repeated up to 10 times, and work on foods of your choosing. Following these sessions, we'll conduct a choice assessment to determine your child's preference for treatment type. Additionally, we'll seek your input regarding your preferences via a written survey. Participants will be compensated. A potential benefit is the child and caregiver will be able to experience both treatment approaches which will allow the caregiver a better chance at identifying a treatment of choice for their child moving forward. Child may also try new foods.
Your child may be eligible for this study if they:
- Are between the age of 4 to 12 years old.
- Are diagnosed with autism or receive school services for autism.
- Experience feeding difficulties.
