Professional Summary
Sawyer Stender, BA, is an adaptive therapy specialist in the Department of Recreational Therapy at UNMC’s Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI). Sawyer’s experience with the institute started in 2007 when she began volunteering for the summer camp program at the age of 12. After years of periodic volunteering, she became a part-time recreational technician in 2014 and joined the staff full-time in 2023. Previously, Sawyer worked full-time as a Service Coordinator for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, developmental disabilities department. Sawyer was excited to take on the role of planning and administrating the Adaptive Sports Program as well as Urban Adventures – MMI’s adult weekend outing program. She loves the free-flowing creativity and the community connections her position provides. She enjoys making meaningful connections with participants, their families, volunteers and fellow staff.
