Professional Summary
Joanie Bergeron is a Physical Therapist in the department of physical therapy at the UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute. Joanie is an Omaha native. She started her PT career working in neurological rehab (brain injury, spinal cord injury & stroke) in Kansas City, MO and Omaha, NE. She began serving students in the public schools as a school-based and early intervention physical therapist in 1995. She has been at MMI since 2000. Joanie received her specialty board certification in pediatric physical therapy in 2009. Joanie serves as a PT residency faculty member and mentor to pediatric PT residents. In her position as MMI-Omaha public schools school-aged physical therapy coordinator (2003), she enjoys mentoring new staff and being a resource for current staff. She has collaborated with biomedical engineering students in a partnership between MMI and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for their senior community projects. Joanie enjoys volunteering with the GoBabyGo! Nebraska! partnership. She is filled with joy when seeing children move on their own for the first time when using the modified cars. Joanie has presented at regional conferences on why ‘movement matters’. She has been involved with the MMI PT continuing education committee and the Omaha area pediatric physical therapy special interest group. Joanie values working at MMI because of our institute’s desire to be on the cutting edge with intervention and research. She loves working with children because they never cease to surprise and amaze her.
