Professional Summary:
James Gehringer is a research assistant professor in the department of physical therapy at the UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute. Dr. Gehringer oversees the Virtual Reality Laboratory, researching how cutting edge VR technology can be applied to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). His laboratory combines computer engineering and rehabilitation sciences to develop and test new ways to serve individuals with IDD. Currently, the VR laboratory is developing custom VR software to assist people with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Cerebral Palsy. Dr. Gehringer has also been involved as a coach at TOPSoccer, a soccer league for athletes with disabilities, and a Sibshops facilitator, a social group for children who have siblings with disabilities.
