UNeMed and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research have teamed together this year to celebrate the achievements of our Inventors and Researchers with an exciting week of activities.  

Seminars and workshops are planned on a variety of topics of interest to faculty, staff, and students.  Click the links below to see the activities planned for each day.

Our New Research Center:  What it is and How to Get Involved

The new Research Data Center (RDC) gives UNMC researchers access to restricted micro-level federal data of many types, including over two dozen health data sets, such as the National Health Interview Survey, Medical Expenditure Survey, National Survey of Family Growth, and National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and all of the National Center for Health Statistics. This presentation will inform researchers of the unparalleled access they now have to restricted data, and the steps they can take to access that data.

Principles of Effective Writing for Grants and Manuscripts

Scientific writing can be daunting because it requires you to WRITE—and writing employs entirely different talents and perspectives than bench research. The good news is that all good writing relies on the same skills, regardless of discipline. Developing clarity, interest, and awareness of audience is easy to do when you know how writing works, and how to practice to make it work well. This presentation will give you a set of strategies that you can use immediately, whether you are undertaking your first grant proposal or working on your 50th journal article.

The Research IT Office has made the Research Data Capture (REDCap) tool available to all UNMC faculty, staff, and students. REDCap is adept at SurveyMonkey-esque online surveys, but also well-suited for more complex tasks, such as collecting data for randomized clinical trials and longitudinal studies. Join us in this session to see how easy it is to use this online database platform to collect, manage, analyze, and securely store your research data.

Experts is a research networking tool that helps users find researchers with specific areas of expertise, making it easier to form teams within UNMC and across organizations. Funding, a searchable database of funding opportunities from over 4,000 public and private funding sources, targets funding opportunities based on your own publication history and will deliver them directly to your in-box. This unique tool also allows campus researchers to search by keyword for current opportunities, set up alerts for new programs and view recommended opportunities based on their individual research profile.
