About
The Department of Surgical Specialties encompasses the dental clinical disciplines of Endodontics, Periodontics, and Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery. Its faculty members are specially trained in their respective disciplines, with most attaining diplomate status in their specialty boards.
Education
The department offers rigorous predoctoral courses in Endodontics, Periodontics, and Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery.
Courses offered include:
- Endodontic Therapy
- Oral Surgery Diagnosis and Treatment
- Periodontal Treatment
- Theoretical Periodontology
The department also offers two postgraduate programs:
Endodontics - The program offers high-quality education and training to prepare individuals for careers in dental academia and/or private practice, ensuring proficiency in endodontics.
Periodontics - The program is designed for individuals seeking to develop clinical skills in diagnosis, treatment planning, and therapy for patients with periodontal diseases and implant needs.
Patient Care
The program delivers the highest quality diagnosis and treatment planning to residents of Nebraska and the Midwest.
Research
The faculty in the Department of Surgical Specialties are nationally and internationally recognized for their contributions to oral health research. Scholarly publications based on original research are widely recognized within the national dental community. Advancing research is a key goal of the department.
