The College of Dentistry serves as part of the dental safety net for the State of Nebraska. Our outreach activities allow our students, faculty and staff to provide oral health care services and education to underserved populations across the state.
Educational Outreach Programs & Activities
Early Dental Health Starter Kits ProgramWe partner with the Nebraska DHHS Office of Oral Health and the Nebraska Community Foundation to produce and distribute early dental health starter kits that are given to caregivers across Nebraska. The kits are filled with unique oral hygiene items for children with the goal of preventing dental disease. |
Special Olympics Special Smiles ProgramWe partner with the Special Olympics Special Smiles program to provide free dental screenings and education to Special Olympics athletes ranging in ages from 10-69. |
UNMC Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP)Each summer, aspiring dental students visit UNMC to experience what it's like to be a dental student and learn about applying to dental school. The goal of the SHPEP program is to strengthen the academic proficiency and career development of students underrepresented in the health professions. |
Nebraska Public Schools & Head StartsWe partner with schools across Nebraska to educate students on the importance of good oral health habits and provide no-cost dental screenings. |
