The Department of Dental Hygiene's Sealant Program connects underserved children in Nebraska with essential preventive dental care services, including dental sealants, fluoride varnish, referrals, and oral health education. The program emphasizes fostering lifelong preventive behaviors and attitudes toward oral health while helping to reduce the need for costly restorative and emergency dental treatments.
From 2002 to 2024, the Sealant Program provided preventive care to over 30,000 underserved elementary students in Lincoln, Omaha, and Western Nebraska. Ultimately, all families are referred to local public health agencies or educational institutions to help parents find a dental home for their children.
