Title: Pediatric Auscultation
Location: Home for Girls - outside of Falmouth, Jamaica
Submitted by Christopher Valentine
Description:
"This photo was taken in March, 1997
at a home for orphaned/neglected/abused girls. The girls were excited to
take turns listening to each others' hearts. As a first-year medical
student, this was also the first time I heard a heart murmur (in another
girl). These kids were polite and well-behaved, and what I remember the most
was how excited they were with the simple packets of toiletries we brought
them from Girls, Inc." |

Title: Requiem por un Gitano
Location: just outside of León, Spain
Submitted by Christopher Valentine
Description:
"This photo was taken in the summer
of 1992 after this man, a gitano (gypsy) approached us and insisted that we
(missionaries) stop to see his home--a shack and a van on the city limits of
León, Spain--and take a picture of him so "my children will remember
me after I die." I took pictures of his family and he began to sing and
shake the chains on the back of his van and became very emotional." |
