Contributing Labs

Core Faculty

We currently have five core faculty and more than 40 affiliate labs drawn from all University of Nebraska campuses. The core labs are housed in the Durham Research Center at UNMC. The program is undergoing substantial growth. We are actively recruiting researchers that bring new and innovative technologies to our program.

Duan Lab

The research goal of Dr. Duan’s lab is to create multi-scale complexity within engineered tissues to understand the fundamentals of cell-material interactions and mimic the native tissues for biomedical applications with a specific emphasis on tissue disease, tissue regeneration and stem cell bioengineering.

Dudley Lab

Research in the laboratory seeks to uncover the mechanisms that regulate the development and homeostasis of musculoskeletal tissues using methods from embryology, molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, and tissue engineering, with the goal of generating novel therapies for regenerative medicine.

Sarvetnick Lab

Dr. Sarvetnick’s team at the Holland Regenerative Medicine Program wants to understand factors that contribute to the auto-inflammatory destruction of tissues. This knowledge will help them design new treatments aimed at predicting and curing diabetes.

Xie Lab

Xie's research interests center on the synthesis, surface modification and self-assembly of materials at nanometer scale to address problems in the field of tissue engineering, regenerative medicine and drug/gene delivery.

Zhao Lab

Dr. Zhao’s lab aims to develop innovative electrical engineering approaches and technologies to facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of human diseases. He is highly motivated to pursue an interdisciplinary research career at the interface of life science and engineering.
