Mary and Dick Holland Regenerative Medicine Program
Regenerating hope, engineering tomorrow's treatments.
Established in 2012, the Holland Regenerative Medicine Program unites exceptional scientists and clinicians dedicated to developing cutting-edge therapies for incurable diseases. Our program has recruited experts across multiple disciplines including developmental biology, biomaterials, tissue engineering, and immunology, with active research in seven specialized tissue engineering domains. Through generous donor support and growing extramural funding, we're advancing regenerative medicine research, fostering collaborations, and developing treatments poised for clinical trials.
A Message from the Director
"The field of regenerative medicine involves innovative medical therapies that enable the body to repair, replace, restore and regenerate damaged or diseased tissues and organs. I am honored to have the opportunity to be involved in this cutting edge scientific field that holds so much potential to help those suffering from acute and chronic conditions." -Nora Sarvetnick, PhD

Who We Are
Mission
Our mission is focused on bringing together forward thinking scientists and clinicians who are committed to understanding the basic science behind tissue engineering and development. By translating these concepts we seek to pioneer regenerative therapies that can be taken into the clinic, spreading hope throughout the Nebraskan community and around the world.
Vision
We envision a world where donor organ shortages are eliminated, diabetes is cured, damaged hearts are repaired, and birth defects are corrected through regenerative medicine. Our research will translate directly into clinical therapies, offering hope to patients with few alternatives and delivering faster, more complete recovery with minimal side effects or complications.
Focus
Regenerative medicine brings together several different disciplines of science including bioengineering, biology, chemistry, computer science, genetics, medicine, robotics, and many other fields. The regenerative medicine program is focused on uniting these areas as one force to battle disease head on. We look forward to the outcomes this project will create both for patients and UNMC as a center of scientific and clinical excellence.
