Urologic Surgery
The Division of Urologic Surgery is a program that encompasses education, research and clinical services.
Our health care professionals offer comprehensive diagnostic and surgical care for urologic diseases, including cancer, kidney stones, urinary and sexual issues, and male fertility care. Our residency program is a five-year, post-graduate education program. Our philosophy is to provide a broad-based educational experience with in-depth basic science, research and clinical experience in current methodologies of general urologic surgery. Guided by the principles of excellence in education, research and quality patient care, our residents will mature for a lifetime of continuing education and learning in an atmosphere designed to promote ethical, compassionate care of the whole patient. Our purpose is to train future urologists by providing opportunities to develop skills necessary to practice in the clinic and operating room while also providing superior urologic care for the people of Nebraska and western Iowa.
Our physicians consist of a mix of full-time faculty members in adult and pediatric urology, as well as community-based physicians. We are fellowship trained in trauma and reconstructive surgery, oncology, fertility, pediatrics, and endourology/robotics.
Many of our faculty are involved in scholarly activities and represent the urology division at national meetings. Dr. Chad LaGrange, chief of urology, held the position of president of the south central section of the American Urological Association in 2022-2023. Dr. Christopher Deibert is a member of the National Leadership Academy of the American Urological Association and Dr. Jared Schober is a young urologist representative to the American Urological Association Board of Directors. Dr. John Makari sits on the American Academy of Pediatrics Rural Surgery Task Force and all of our faculty have been invited speakers or moderators at sectional and national meetings.
Chad LaGrange, MD, Division Chair
Dr. LaGrange's focus is on minimally invasive surgery. He performs both standard laparoscopic and robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy. This technique is now being used at the Omaha VA Hospital which adds further valuable laparoscopic exposure to the residents' training experience. He also participates in the Multidisciplinary Genitourinary Oncology Clinic.

We select two residents each year. Applications are accepted between September 15 and early October.
