Chandrakanth Are, MBBS, MBA, FSSO, FRCS, FACS

Dr. Are is a surgical oncologist and holds the title of Jerald L. and Carolynn J. Varner Professor of Surgical Oncology and Global Health at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, in Omaha, Nebraska. He is the associate dean for graduate medical education for the College of Medicine and vice-chair for education in the Department of Surgery. He also serves as the CEO of the Global Forum of Cancer Surgeons.

Dr. Are obtained his medical degree from Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad, India. He then obtained his fellowship from The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Following which, he completed his general surgery residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, and fellowship in surgical oncology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. More recently, he obtained his Executive MBA degree from University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Dr. Are serves in multiple leadership roles at the local, regional, national and international level.
