James Vargo, MD

Dr. Vargo received his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio. He completed his plastic surgery residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, and a craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan-Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is an assistant professor of surgery at UNMC.
Dr. Vargo’s clinical interests include treating the full spectrum of pediatric plastic surgery reconstructive needs in children and young adults. He has a special interest in cleft lip and palate, craniosynostosis, craniofacial anomalies, orthognathic surgery, facial trauma reconstruction, rhinoplasty, congenital ear anomalies, and the surgical treatment of migraines.

Dr. Vargo's research interests include surgical technique for cleft palate surgery and optimizing outcomes in craniosynostosis. He also has interest in surgical visualization techniques and the surgical treatment of adolescent migraines.
Dr. Vargo is also a medical illustrator and has published illustrations in various journals an textbooks within the U.S. and internationally.
