Corrigan McBride, MD, MBA, FACS, FASMBS, DABS, DABS-FPDMBS, DABOM

Dr. McBride went to medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. She completed general surgery residency and surgical critical care fellowship at the University of Missouri-Colombia. This was followed by an advanced minimally invasive and bariatric surgery fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Following training she joined the faculty at University of Nebraska Medical Center. Her primary practice includes primary laparoscopic bariatric surgery, revisional bariatric surgery for failure to maintain weight loss or complications from previous bariatric surgery. She also performs operations for gastroparesis, failure to thrive, gallbladder issues, and abdominal wall hernias.

She is board certified in general surgery and is one of less than 220 surgeons with the American Board of Surgery focused practiced designation in bariatric surgery. Additionally she is board certified in obesity medicine.

She is engaged nationally in several national societies related to metabolic and bariatric surgery, advanced fellow education and has done significant work related to bariatric fellow curriculum and education.

She is the division chief of general surgery for UNMC and is the senior medical director for policy and procedure for Nebraska Medicine.

Research Interests

Dr. McBride's research interests are primarily in bariatric surgery including:

  • Patient selection, operation selection and shared decision making.
  • Use of innovative techniques.
  • Early recovery after surgery modalities and decreasing opioid usage in laparoscopic surgery.
  • Postoperative outcomes related to weight and co-morbidities, nutrition and weight loss maintenance.
