Marian Urban, MD, PhD, FRCS(C-Th)

Dr. Urban is an associate professor in the division of cardiothoracic surgery and Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology. He received his medical degree from the Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, and a doctorate from the same institution for his work with HLA and non-HLA antibodies in patients supported with durable mechanical assist devices. He underwent training in a cardiothoracic surgery at the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine in Prague and University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, UK, and fellowship in heart and lung transplantation and mechanical circulatory support at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

He has a longstanding scientific interest in thoracic organ recovery, optimization, and allocation. He was a recipient of an International Society for Heart & Lung Transplantation International Traveling Fellowship Award in 2013, and he received the Transplant Registry Early Career Award in 2014 from the organization. He has served on the organization's symposium planning committee and as an annual meeting session chair since 2017. He has published over 60 manuscripts and served as a reviewer in peer reviewed cardiothoracic, transplant and artificial organ themed journals.
