Rudy Paul Lackner, MD, FACS, FCCP

Dr. Lackner completed his cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Chicago in 1993. This was followed by a fellowship in lung and heart transplantation at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

Upon completion of his training, Dr. Lackner joined the faculty at UNMC in 1994. He is currently the chief of the section of thoracic surgery and the director of the comprehensive thoracic oncology program at UNMC. He has a special interest in the combined use of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation to treat advanced stages of cancer. He is very interested in the use of minimally invasive procedures in the treatment of these cancers.

Dr. Lackner is the senior thoracic surgical oncologist at the Buffett Cancer Center with a practice focused on thoracic malignancies. He represents UNMC on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Non-small Cell Lung Cancer committee as well as the Lung Cancer Screening committee. He is also the chair of the cancer committee.
