Advanced Learning Workshops
Each workshop is a 15-minute video that you can complete at your convenience during the assigned week. To ensure you get the most out of the material, you'll be asked to write a 250- to 650-word reflection in which you describe how you plan to apply what you've learned to your own study strategies. Each ALW builds on the last, so we encourage you to attend all four for the full experience.
Workshop 1 - Processing Large Volumes of Information (Week of August 26)
Start here! In almost every program at UNMC, you'll be introduced to large amounts of information in your didactic coursework. This workshop will help you develop strategies to manage and process that information effectively. Presented by Matt Vilburn, DC UNMC College of Medicine.
Workshop 2 - Metacognition (Week of September 2)
Understanding how you learn is the foundation for academic success. This workshop will introduce you to metacognition, the awareness of your learning processes with practical examples on how to apply it in your studies. Presented by Tessa Wells, PT, DPT UNMC College of Allied Health Professions.
Workshop 3 - Growth Mindset (Week of September 9)
Overcoming imposter syndrome is crucial for success. Learn how a growth mindset enhances your learning strategies and helps you tackle challenges. Presented by Holly Zimmerman, MS, GCG UNMC College of Allied Health Professions.
Workshop 4 - Self-Directed Learning (Week of September 16)
Dive into strategies to improve your study habits and prepare yourself to be a life-long learner, both in academic and professional settings. Presented by Kate West, DMSc, PA-C UNMC College of Allied Health.
