Authorship
Best practices for co-authorship vs acknowledgment in the the Spatial Profiling Hub. These practices were developed referencing NIH and ABRF co-authorship guidelines.
Automatic Invitation for Co-Authorship
A core scientist must be invited as a coauthor if they meet any two of the following conditions:
- The core scientist acquired, analyzed, and interpreted data for the project that required unique expertise and skills.
- The core scientist selected regions of interest or provided significant expertise during the selection process
- The core scientist contributed significantly to the conception or design of the project.
- The core scientist provided specialized training or services beyond routine procedures, including the development of novel methods for data acquisition or analysis.
- The core scientist wrote a portion of the manuscript, such as Materials and Methods, figure legends, or technical descriptions.
Acknowledgment Instead of Authorship
If a core scientist’s contributions do not meet the criteria for authorship but were still valuable to the project, they should be acknowledged in the manuscript’s acknowledgments section.
