Server Purchase & Deployment

Research IT Office provides technical assistance on Server Purchase & Deployment. Each party will be responsible for tasks described as below during this process. If interested, please contact us to set up an initial consultation.

Responsibilities

Requestor Responsibilities

Make a request for a server purchase
Provide written use case of the purpose of the server
Submit project for ITS approval
Approve quote and place order with vendor
Order (2) SFP+ optics modules per 10 gbps network connection (unless using 1 gbps)
Order operating system or third-party software licenses if needed

Core Responsibilities

Propose suitable server configuration
Get quote for a server from the vendor
Facilitate ITS approval
Receive ordered hardware and software
Install hardware in data center
Install, configure, secure, and test operating system and other software
Set up a periodic backup of server configuration data and other user data (required)
Perform periodic system updates and routine system maintenance (required)
Ongoing application support for Requestor's users (optional for additional fees)
Perform periodic application updates and routine application maintenance (optional for additional fees)
