Backup Freezer Program

Whether researchers have planned for an annual defrosting of their freezer, or experienced an emergency failure, it is necessary to have another freezer available to which materials can be moved and stored until the impacted freezer is ready.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and the Eppley Institute have purchased several backup ultra-low freezers that are available to all UNMC researchers for this purpose by completing the backup freezer request/report form.

Through this form, you have the ability to:

Submit a request to schedule a backup freezer for planned usage, or
Report the usage of a backup freezer for an unplanned emergency/failure

Backup Freezer Locations

Freezers are available in most research buildings on the main campus. Use the listing below to determine which backups are located closest to your area. (updated June 2024)

Backup freezers located within the Buffet Cancer Center are managed by the Eppley Freezer Team. Contact Ken Anderson and Ed Rau (kenanderson@unmc.edu; erau@unmc.edu) with questions.
