Research Billing
Roles and Responsibilities: Research Billers are responsible for correctly identifying research and routine charges and routing them accurately and timely to the study or third-party payor. If the information on the subject visit is not up to date in the Clinical Trials Management System or matrix, Research Billing cannot route charges; as a result, a Research Billing Compliance Information Request form will be generated for the study team to update the missing information..

- Your patient was billed in error
- Your study was billed in error
- Your orders were not linked to research

Roles and responsibilities: Patient Financial Services is an operational support department of Nebraska Medicine committed to the highest quality customer service. The assurance of customer satisfaction is achieved through compliance with all regulatory and contractual requirements, providing accurate and timely billing, treating all customers with dignity, confidentiality, and respect, and supporting of patient financial needs through education, training, and counseling, in a cost-effective manner.
When to contact PFS:
- Pre-authorizations
- Financial assistance: Email pasfinancialcounselors@nebraskamed.com for financial assistance application
- Estimate of future procedure/visit: Call 402.559.5346 to request and estimate from a financial counselor between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Be sure to have the patient’s name, medical record number, insurance information.
- Cost related to insurance- co-pay, deductible, out-of-pocket: After receiving payment from the insurance company, Nebraska Medicine will send a patient statement for any remaining balance. The amount should match what was stated in the explanation of benefits letter received from the insurance company. If there is a discrepancy between the two, contact the Patient Financial Services department between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Clinical Trials Analyst
Clinical Trials Analyst (CTA) is responsible for submitting a ticket to CTMS for the billing calendar to be built in CTMS. Before the build in CTMS, a preliminary billing grid will be provided by the CTA to CTMS and the Department. To find your lead CTA, go to the PC Console in CTMS and look under the staff list.
When to contact your Lead CTA:
- CTMS Billing Calendar must be updated or modified to align with clinical events.
