Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship

An MRI image of a knee taken by a musculoskeletal radiologist.

Our fellowship is designed to provide the graduate of a diagnostic radiology residency with additional subspecialty training and expertise in musculoskeletal imaging and image-guided procedures of the extremities.

The musculoskeletal division currently has six full-time fellowship-trained faculty and three part-time remote faculty. Our practice consists of a variety of computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging exams, radiographs and musculoskeletal ultrasound. We typically perform one to two image-guided injection/aspiration procedures per day.

Our primary clinical partner, Nebraska Medicine, is a 700+ bed, Level I trauma center and a tertiary referral center for bone and soft tissue tumors with an orthopedic oncologist on staff. The musculoskeletal division works closely with the rheumatology service and orthopedic surgeons, including participation in monthly interdisciplinary conferences. Our division also provides interpretations for a variety of outpatient imaging facilities in the Omaha area as well as interpretations for several regional collegiate athletic programs, including University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Creighton University and University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Fellows are appointed to the faculty as clinical instructors and will participate in all areas of musculoskeletal radiology. All MRI exams and CT scans are reviewed with staff while radiograph interpretation can be performed independently or with staff review. The fellow will also participate in resident education by supervising procedures, reviewing radiographs and presenting three resident conferences during the 12-month fellowship. There are opportunities for research and a stipend for education conferences is provided. Up to three months of elective time can be requested to rotate through other subspecialty areas.
