Body Imaging Fellowship

The Department of Radiology offers a one-year, nonaccredited fellowship position in body imaging. Our fellowship includes comprehensive training and experience in all aspects of abdominal radiology including CT scans, abdominal and pelvic MRI, ultrasound, radiography and fluoroscopy. 

Fellows are valued members of the body imaging division and are provided time for continuing education, pursuit of academic interests, and opportunities to function as a staff radiologist. Our fellows participate in dedicated didactics, interesting case conference and tumor boards. Involvement in department quality improvement projects, teaching and research is encouraged and supported. The fellow will present three conferences during the 12-month fellowship. 

Our division has close working relationships with transplant and oncologic specialists, emphasizing a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. The program prides itself on preparing individuals for academic or specialized private practice careers.

Our fellow will have the opportunity to work with a patient population is challenging and diversified with a wide variety of general medical and surgical problems, including surgical specialties of transplant surgery, surgical oncology, urology, colorectal surgery, trauma surgery and bariatric surgery. The body imaging division also provides image interpretation to multiple medical specialties, such as oncology, gastroenterology, hepatology, infectious diseases, nephrology and internal medicine.

The body imaging division has a high volume of cases, performing over 25,000 body CT scans and over 2,400 MRI scans a year. The ultrasound section performs over 26,000 cases a year, including abdominal, obstetrical, transplant, pediatric, head and vascular studies. 

There are opportunities for research, which is encouraged. Time is made available for preparation of research papers and presentations. A stipend is provided for educational conferences. 

Fellows are given 12 weeks of elective time which can be spent outside the body imaging division in areas such as breast imaging, musculoskeletal, neuroradiology, interventional radiology or nuclear medicine.

Elizabeth Edney, MD, Body Imaging Fellowship Director

Dr. Edney specializes in abdominal and pelvic ultrasound, CT and MRI. She interfaces closely with the departments of oncology, surgery, urology and gastroenterology to provide expert image interpretation. She is actively involved in the teaching of medical students, residents and fellows
