Jud W. Gurney, MD, Lectureship
Jud W. Gurney, MD, was respected as an outstanding clinician, researcher, teacher and mentor. Dr. Gurney joined the University of Nebraska Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor in 1989 and was elevated to associate professor in 1991. He served on the faculty of the Mayo Clinic from 2000 to 2002 before returning to UNMC in 2002 and assuming the Charles A. Dobry Professorship of Radiology.
Dr. Gurney was recognized nationally and internationally as a preeminent educator and pulmonary radiologist. He was a former president of the Society of Thoracic Radiology and of the Nebraska Chapter of the American College of Radiology. He authored 60 peer-reviewed articles and authored or co-authored 10 textbooks. Following his retirement in 2010, Dr. Gurney was named professor emeritus in the department.
In 2010, Dr. Gurney received the Nebraska Radiological Society's Silver Medal Award, presented to radiologists who have made significant contributions to the advancement of radiology in Nebraska. Dr. Gurney passed away in March 2010.
