Session 1: Visualizing Data

Crafting Compelling Stories for Diverse Audiences

Presenter: Caroline Hoffman, MPH

Caroline Hoffman, MPH, has worked in the health communications field for more than 10 years. She is currently the environmental health communications manager at the Rhode Island Department of Health. Her work focuses on helping subject matter experts create and disseminate meaningful communications materials with actionable calls-to-action. She started her career working at public relations agencies in New York City, specializing in communicating FDA approvals and clinical trial data, building patient engagement programs, and in health crisis and issues preparedness. During this time, Caroline

learned how to translate complex medicine, science, and data into meaningful information for the public and was introduced to the field of public health.

Caroline completed her Master of Public Health at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health Department of Environmental Health Sciences in 2021. During her education, Caroline gained a greater understanding of data analysis and interpretation, building her data storytelling skills. At RIDOH, Caroline works with many programs and centers, including the Environmental Public Health Tracking Program, the Climate Change and Health Program, and the lead poisoning prevention programs.

Session 2: The Art of Persuasion

Using Data to Enhance Credibility, Logic, and Emotional Appeal

Presenter: Dr. Bill Brantley

Dr. Bill Brantley is the president and chief learning officer of Brantley Advanced Social Science Applications. He is a certified project management professional, an agile project manager, an accredited business analyst professional, and certified in disciplined agile project management. Dr. Brantley is also a certified professional in talent development, and training management, and a certified data scientist.

Dr. Brantley is an adjunct faculty member for the University of Louisville (24 years) and the University of Maryland (13 years).

He has created twelve online courses in project management communication, digital transformation, and no-code development with a global audience of over 20,000 students.

He is the author of The Persuasive Project Manager (2019), Four Scenarios for the Future of the Federal Government (2019), and Strategic Career Reinvention (2022). His latest work is helping state and local governments effectively use artificial intelligence to train employees and deliver public services.

Advancing Health Equity through Data Visualization

Presenter One: Hannah Ostheimer

Hannah Ostheimer is an experienced public health professional with experience in prevention program planning with a health equity lens and a passion for public health workforce development.

As the Principal Consultant of Herold LLC, she provides technical assistance and support to state and national public health organizations through training, curriculum design, and other workforce capacity-building efforts. She is the founder of the Public Health Training Academy, an organization that provides ongoing continuing education opportunities for public health professionals. Prior to consulting, Hannah worked in both public and private sectors, including roles at state and local health departments, community health centers, and private healthcare organizations.

Hannah holds a Master of Public Health and Master of Arts from San Diego State University and is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist. She serves as a Director on the Division Board for Professional Development for the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing.

Presenter Two: Karen Errichetti, MPH, DrPH

Karen Errichetti, MPH, DrPH is an experienced program evaluator specializing in data visualization. She is an expert in public health department accreditation and

improvement planning. Dr. Errichetti is also leader of the Health Services, Management, and Policy for the MPH Program at Tufts University School of Medicine and teaches masters level courses in program evaluation, public health assessment, and healthcare organization and finance.

A working program evaluator, she has assisted several state public health departments in developing and implementing equity-aligned health assessment and improvement planning process including Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the US Virgin Islands. She has health equity data visualization trainings for professional organizations and universities. Karen's work has been published in journals such as Medical Care and the Journal of General Internal Medicine. Karen holds a Doctor of Public Health from Boston University and a Master of Public Health from Yale University.
