Technical Assistance

The Office of Public Health Practice provides technical assistance to partners throughout the region.

Our services are designed to fortify the capacities and enhance the performance of the public health system. Our technical assistance services include facilitation support, performance management and quality improvement services, and accreditation support. While our primary mission is to support Nebraska governmental public health, our services are offered to any organization seeking training or technical assistance. Please see below for details or submit a Request for Services form.

Facilitation Services

Our office provides a full range of facilitation services to help organizations or groups identify, visualize, and achieve their goals.

Strategic Planning

Strategic planning is a powerful tool that organizations can use to create a shared vision and identify new goals and strategic directions. Our facilitators help plan, execute, and document Strategic Planning Team meetings. Our facilitators provide a two-day strategic planning session that will lay the foundation for the organization to write their strategic plan.

Community Health Improvement Planning

Public Health Departments often lead community health improvement planning efforts. Our facilitators can help plan and facilitate community meetings to help participants select collective priorities and move into building out strategies. These community health improvement planning sessions will lay the foundation for the organization to write their community health improvement plan.

Action Planning and Goal Setting

An important part of executing a strategic plan is creating a roadmap for completing goals and taking action. Our facilitators are trained to help engage all members of a group effectively, through the planning of short to medium-term projects, or completing projects that have stalled.

Workgroup/Stakeholder/Community Meetings

Our services also include facilitating community, workgroup, and other gatherings and meetings. Our facilitated events can help build shared understanding and consensus by weaving together a diverse range of ideas and developing creative solutions, informed by the group’s vision, goals, and desires.

We provide monthly trainings, lead a community of practice open to all accreditation coordinators in the state, and facilitate peer-to-peer learning events. If your health department is striving to meet national standards and measures, our team can support you.

Our Accreditation Offerings

We provide a wide range of accreditation technical assistance and training.

Mock Site Visits

Through mock site visits, our Office our Office provides a practice site visit experience for health departments. The subsequent debrief helps identify areas of strength and opportunities where additional preparation can benefit health department staff before undergoing the Public Health Accreditation Board site visit.

The accreditation process requires extensive documentation and can be stalled if documentation isn’t completed within the Public Health Accreditation Board guidelines. This workshop helps health departments understand the intent of Public Health Accreditation Board measures by reviewing their documentation and providing guidance and detailed feedback.

Documentation Selection & Annotation

A key piece of the accreditation process is selecting documentation that exemplifies the domains, standards, and measures. This workshop provides health departments with tips on how to select documentation, the do's & don'ts of documentation requirements, and best practices on documentation annotation.

Narrative Writing

This interactive workshop provides health departments guidance on how to tell their story in narrative form when a Public Health Accreditation Board measure requires demonstration of conformity via a narrative. This workshop also includes practical tips and tricks on how to draft narratives.

Preparing for Reaccreditation

This interactive presentation is designed to help health departments transition from achieving initial accreditation to continuing momentum towards reaccreditation. The presentation includes breaking down the differences between initial and reaccreditation and helping health departments understand what the transition entails.
