Collaborative Projects

The OPHP has facilitated and supported collaborative projects between faculty at the UNMC COPH and local health agencies throughout Nebraska. If you would like to connect with a faculty member to develop a collaborative project, please contact Dr. Grimm.

Example Collaborative Projects

Exploring Nebraska Adult Sexual Literacy

In this project, the Midlands Sexual Health Research Collaborative and the Nebraska Sexual Health Coalition partnered with the UNMC COPH and the Douglas County Health Department to research the sexual literacy of Nebraska adults as a way to inform interventions aimed at increasing sexual literacy for Nebraskans. Primary activities for the study were conducted in Omaha with collaborative partners from across the state, including Lincoln (urban), Kearney (rural), Hastings (rural), Wisner (rural), and Scottsbluff (rural). Over the long term, the project aims to build sustainable community-academic partnerships to address sexual health in Nebraska through a collaborative research process.

Reducing the Local Epidemic Rates of Sexually Transmitted Infections

In this project, UNMC COPH and the Douglas County Department of Corrections collaborated. Individuals involved are worked to reduce the local epidemic rates of sexually transmitted infections in Douglas County by targeting high risk individuals in the correctional system, incorporating interactive educational programming to inform inmates about STIs, and offering rapid HIV screening and counseling.
