Brandon Grimm, PhD, MPH
Vice Dean, UNMC College of Public Health
Professor, UNMC Department of Health Promotion

Brandon Grimm, PhD, MPH, is the Vice Dean and a Professor with Tenure in the Department of Health Promotion. Dr. Grimm is a lifelong Nebraskan committed to creating solutions so that all people can thrive. Dr. Grimm is an expert in conducting practice-based systems research focusing on building capacity, improving quality, evaluating, and engaging communities to enhance the performance of public health organizations. He is committed to finding solutions with communities to address their most important public health issues.
Dr. Grimm’s research is guided by practice-based planning and evaluation. The approach examines the individual (technical and transferrable skills and capacity, leadership capacity, commitment to equity), the organization (the internal policies, systems, and structures in place), and the community systems (the historical policies, systems, structures, and needs of the community) to answer complex public health issues that impact the community. In addition to his research, Dr. Grimm has been instrumental in enhancing the capacity of the current public health workforce, translating data into action, building mutually beneficial academe practice partnerships, and training the next generation of practitioners. In 2004, Dr. Grimm co-created the Great Plains Leadership Institute, which has graduated over 400 public health professionals from Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, and South Dakota. In 2012, he established the Office of Public Health Practice at the UNMC College of Public Health. Faculty and staff of the Office have provided resources for technical assistance, evidence-based programming, assessment and evaluation, practice-based research opportunities, and student field placements that support and impact the public’s health in Nebraska, the region, and the globe. Dr. Grimm is a recognized resource locally, regionally, and nationally.
He sits on numerous boards and committees, including the Board Chair of the Sarpy Cass Health Department and Past President of The Wellbeing Partners and the Public Health Association of Nebraska. Dr. Grimm is the recipient of the Balderson Award from the National Public Health Leadership Development Network, the Academic Public Health Practice Excellence Award from the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health, and the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the UNMC College of Public Health and Wayne State College (Nebraska).
