Student Success
What Does Student Success Mean?
The goal of Student Success in the College of Public Health is to support the academic and personal development of our students by assisting them in acquiring the abilities and approaches necessary to succeed at UNMC and beyond. We support activities that improve academic performance, increase retention rates, and encourage personal and professional growth among our graduate students on campus and around the world.
How Can Student Success Help Me?
Student Success can assist students in making the most out of their methods of learning to accomplish all their educational goals here within the College of Public Health.
Here are some of the ways Student Success can help you:
- One-on-one meetings where students can set their own academic goals during the coaching sessions and receive assistance and accountability in the process
- Supplemental instruction “peer-to-peer tutoring." Students have access to virtual support in courses that historically have been difficult courses within the mph degree or certificate program
- Handouts and videos provide advice and resources to help students succeed academically
- Study groups and boot camps give students the chance to get together to study in groups and make the most of their time. Wherever they are in the world
If you would like to discuss your educational goals further, please send an email to Ronald Glenn.
Student Resources
All University of Nebraska Medical Center students, teachers, and staff are eligible for free one-on-one writing center consultations with qualified advisors to help them develop their writing skills, critical thinking and reading comprehension, and effective communication. Consultants from the University of Nebraska Omaha Writing Center work at the UNMC Writing Center. During the spring and fall semesters, the service is offered at the McGoogan Health Sciences Library, with online sessions also accessible.
The UNMC students, teachers, and staff, as well as authorized Nebraska health professionals and residents of the state, can all access information through the Leon S. McGoogan Health Sciences Library, one of the main health science libraries in the country. The library encourages the development of information management skills that support lifelong learning, timely access to high-quality collections of print and electronic materials, and the incorporation of reliable information into UNMC's academic and research endeavors.
All students can get support from CAPS as they work toward their academic and professional objectives. All confidential and cost-free mental wellness treatments are available to UNMC students. All counselors are licensed and committed to the welfare of learners at all educational levels as they work toward their academic and professional objectives. Students will continue to have access to mental health help throughout their academic careers, and counseling needs may alter over time.
