Child Abuse Pediatrics
The Division of Child Abuse provides learners with an experience in the diagnosis and treatment of infants and children who have experienced child abuse and maltreatment. Faculty in the division provide inpatient consultations at Children's Nebraska as well as Nebraska Medicine. The staff also has an outpatient clinic at Children’s for complex social situations and physical abuse.
As a learner, you will also have the opportunity to observe the only comprehensive foster care clinic in the region. This clinic provides medical, developmental, behavioral health, dental and optometry for children in foster care. Faculty and staff work closely with parents, foster parents, case workers and attorneys to ensure that the medical and mental health needs of these children are properly assessed and treated
Finally, Dr. Suzanne Haney, division chief, provides clinical supervision for the medical staff at Project Harmony, Omaha's only Children's Advocacy Center, thus providing an opportunity for learners to observe the care of children with suspected sexual abuse.
