Interprofessional Fall Risk Reduction Team
Interprofessional Fall Risk Reduction Team
What?
An inter-professional fall risk reduction team is responsible for managing and implementing the facility’s fall risk reduction program. Why?
Falls are a complex problem. We need the expertise of many different healthcare professionals, staff members, and leaders to effectively address fall risk reduction. Research evidence, suggests that hospitals that use interprofessional teams to address fall risk reduction have lower fall rates over time. How?
Identify staff members and leaders from a variety of areas who have the necessary expertise to address fall risk reduction. Consider, at a minimum, individuals from nursing, pharmacy, physical and occupational therapy, and quality improvement, and individuals from other disciplines who regularly interact with or mobilize patients, such as radiography, dietary, etc. You may also consider including a staff member from environmental services, information technology, maintenance, and admissions staff.Resources
