Fall Event and Rate Reporting
Fall Event and Rate Reporting
What?
A fall event reporting system provides a structure and process to collect standardized and narrative fall event data. Why?
Reported falls contribute to one measure of the success of your fall risk reduction program—total, assisted, and injurious fall rates. Using standardized forms and terminology (e.g. fall definitions, levels of harm) allows for valid fall rate comparisons across facilities. How?
Use a standardized fall definition and form for reporting fall events. Healthcare facilities involved in the CAPTURE Falls collaborative use the standardized fall definition developed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the online Know Falls Event Learning System, developed by the UNMC CAPTURE Falls team, to report falls.Resources
