Center for Staphylococcal Research
The increasing prevalence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections has underscored the need for a better understanding of how these diverse and versatile pathogens cause disease.
Although they are best recognized for causing infections of surgical wounds, prosthetic devices, and in-dwelling catheters, the emergence of more virulent strains that can cause serious infections in otherwise healthy individuals has sparked nationwide interest in these organisms.
Our center was the first in the nation dedicated to Staphylococcal research and translational treatment strategies. We are utilizing a team approach of practitioners and researchers to lessen the impact of Staphylococcal disease on human health.
Nebraska Transposon Mutant Library
We have constructed and published the Nebraska Transposon Mutant Library. This sequence-defined Tn insertion library of S. aureus was obtained directly from the USA300_FPR3757 genome sequence (NCBI reference sequence NC_007793).
Annual Events
Each year, we host the International Conference on Gram Positive Pathogens, featuring investigators from around the world and an environment of collaboration among researchers focused on Gram-positive pathogens.
In the summer, we hold our annual Essentials of Staphylococcal Genetics and Metabolism Workshop, offering participants an advanced understanding of the genetic and metabolic techniques commonly used by the Staphylococcal research community.
