About the Center
Our center's researchers have varied talents and expertise but they are united in the common goal of developing novel antibiotics and therapeutic strategies to combat infections caused by these formidable pathogens.
The goals of the UNMC Center for Staphylococcal Research are to:- Conduct cutting-edge basic research on S. aureus and S. epidermidis.
- Promote clinical investigations on staphylococcal infections.
- Develop genetic and molecular tools for use by the staphylococcal research community,.
- Serve as an educational center for developing scientists interested in pursuing a career in staphylococcal disease research.
Our Partners
Mid-American Consortium on Gram-Positive Pathogens
To provide additional expertise in infectious diseases, the CSR has teamed-up with researchers at several area institutions including the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Creighton University, the University of South Dakota School of Medicine, and the University of Iowa to form the Mid-American Consortium on Gram-Positive Pathogens.
This extremely interactive group comprises 18 independent investigators all working on various Gram-positive pathogens. As a result of the formation of this group, the International Conference on Gram-Positive Pathogens was created, providing a unique forum for the dissemination of information and ideas specifically related to these bacteria, and imparting considerable recognition to what we are seeking to accomplish here in Nebraska.
Network on Antimicrobial Resistance in Staphylococcus aureus
The Network on Antimicrobial Resistant Staphylococcus aureus is a program funded by the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious and is focused on providing resources to clinical investigators, basic scientists and clinical microbiologists who have the common goal of gaining a better understanding of infections caused by antibiotic resistant strains of S. aureus.
Our center has provided the Nebraska Transposon Mutant Library to the network for distribution.
Support the Center
By contributing funds for much needed Staphylococcal research, you can be confident in the knowledge that you are helping patients today and into the future. Furthermore, your donation will help promote basic and translational sciences, as well as strengthen Nebraska's economy and education systems.
If you choose to support the research being carried out by the center and UNMC, please email Liz VanRoekel, administrative coordinator, or call 402-559-4040.
