Paul D. Fey, PhD, serves as vice chair of research and professor in the UNMC Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology. He also is associate director of the UNMC Center for Staphylococcal Research.
Staphylococcus aureus and S. epidermidis are highly significant causes of community and hospital acquired infections. Dr. Fey's lab is focused on two major themes: The function and relevance of biofilm accumulation molecules in Staphylococcus epidermidis including polysaccharide intercellular adhesin and accumulation-associated protein.
