For Potential House Officers
Welcome from the Directors
As the major referral center for the state of Nebraska, we see a superb variety of cases with ample “bread and butter” pathology, mixed with rare and interesting specimens.
A strong didactic curriculum and a high faculty to trainee ratio are designed to optimize residents’ education. From the clinical pathology standpoint we are a regional reference lab, which greatly expands the variety of specimens we get.
We have very strong clinical microbiology laboratory, which supports National Quarantine Unit and the National Biocontainment Training Center, in addition to public health lab and strong research
program. The transfusion medicine section covers all aspects of the discipline from busy blood bank, to apheresis center and cellular therapy lab (Biologics Production Facility).
We have state-of-the-art molecular and cytogenetics facilities with an extensive test menu that supports busy oncology and transplantation services. The residents are closely involved in managing decisions of the laboratories and participate in quality reviews. All these facilities provide residents with unparalleled opportunities to be involved in the cutting edge of pathology clinical service, research, and education.
The intangible strengths of UNMC’s Pathology Residency Program are just as important. With faculty dedicated to teaching a resident pool with strong camaraderie and outstanding, modern facilities, there is a supportive culture that fosters resident success. As an added bonus, Omaha is a wonderful city in which to live during your four years here.
Thanks for your interest, and we look forward to hearing from you.
