Encouraging High School Students to Excel

Ralston's HOSA Future Health Professionals interacting with simulation.

iEXCEL visited Ralston High School in March to meet with the Future Health Professionals (HOSA) after-school club. Through the HOSA program, students explore various career pathways in healthcare. During the visit, Ralston students had the opportunity to interact with simulation tools and connect with the iEXCEL team. Dheeraj Varandani and Jer Weann Ang demonstrated how they create 3D medical imagery and discussed how students use visualization to enhance their understanding of complex topics. Learners were also able to get hands-on to practice intubating a patient and using laparoscopic surgical trainers.

Ralston High School’s Medical Academy students later visited iEXCEL in May for an interactive tour of the Davis Global Center. Many of the senior students are enrolled in a nearby Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program and were excited to visit UNMC’s campus for the first time. They had the opportunity to see and test the advanced tools that Nebraska Medicine health care professionals use to enhance their skills. After completing undergraduate programs, many Ralston students hope to return to UNMC for health professional education. We have no doubt that they will excel!
