ARPA Grant

The UNMC College of Nursing has been awarded an American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant that will provide close to $500 thousand over the next three years.

The project, an “Immersive Interprofessional Integrated Care Training Grant,” will enabling the expansion of the current student health primary care clinic at the University of Nebraska Kearney Student Health Center to include a primary interprofessional integrated care training hub for family nurse practitioners, psychiatric advanced practice providers (APRNs and PAs), primary care, internal medicine and psychiatric medical residents, and behavioral health providers. This interprofessional training hub will create opportunities to facilitate workforce development across the state in all of the essential integrated roles while improving access to metal health care for Nebraska students through the implementation and delivery of Integrated Care with a team of experts.

The grant will facilitate two tracks of trainees. The first track will include interprofessionals who are seeking to train in integrated care and would include graduate and postgraduate family nurse practitioners, graduate and post graduate PAs, medical residents and students, along with behavioral health providers. The second track of the proposed trainees are the post-graduate psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners.

Goals for the grant project include:

  • Establish a fully functional integrated care clinic within the UNK student health care.
  • Improve the access and quality of mental health care through the appropriate triage and provision of psychiatric services provided for students encountered within the UNK student health clinic.
  • Facilitate the primary care clinic providers and behavioral health providers capacity and confidence to assess, treat and manage mental health conditions which are commonly encountered but are appropriate to be managed in this setting through the systematic support of an integrated team.
  • Develop a core integrated team which will serve as the leaders, trainers and providers for the delivery of education, training and provision of services to enable expansion efforts of integrated care.
  • Develop an interprofessional workforce who has fundamental training, interest and commitment to provide concepts of integrated care into actual practice.
