Applicants complete an online application and provide supplemental materials in support of the application for program admission. The online application is completed through the Centralized Application Service for Nursing Programs. Applicants are responsible to ensure that the application is submitted by the published deadline and that all required documents are received in a timely manner. Applications and supplemental materials received by the published deadlines will be given full consideration. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Upon receipt of the completed application, all application and supplemental materials become the property of UNMC.

The College of Nursing requires 17 prerequisite courses. Students complete these courses at an accredited institution prior to beginning their nursing coursework. It is recommended students complete a minimum of 12 prerequisite courses prior to applying to the college. All 17 courses must be complete prior to starting the program.
Additional requirements:
- Prerequisite coursework must be completed at a “C” or above.
- Minimum prerequisite GPA of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Please review the Undergraduate Admission Requirements regarding prerequisite coursework that must be completed within seven years of starting the program and courses that must have a college letter grade.
- An active CNA certification is required prior to starting the program. It is recommended students work as a CNA, but it is not required. If you have your CNA certification at the time of application, please list in the Supporting Information category.

The cost of the NursingCAS application is $60. Only complete an application for your first-choice campus. After admissions decisions are finalized, information is provided regarding seats available at additional College of Nursing locations.
All application fees payable online by credit/debit card.
When you create your NursingCAS account, you will list an e-mail address. Be sure to manage your email account so that you receive emails from both NursingCAS and from UNMC. Check your e-mail frequently during the application period as that will be the primary form of communication from the college.
You do not need to provide ACT or SAT scores or your high school transcript.
Please review our policies regarding English as a second language and provide English proficiency scores if needed for undergraduate admissions.
You will enter all of your college coursework in the Transcript Entry portion of your application. Gather your transcripts prior to entering your college coursework so your entry and transcripts match. Follow the NursingCAS instructions on how to enter your test credits.
Submit all official transcripts from each school you attended to NursingCAS directly. Follow the instructions under the Colleges Attended tab and use the NursingCAS transcript guide for more information.
Read all requirements and information provided by the College of Nursing. Please note, if you are admitted a $200 enrollment deposit is required at the time acceptance. The enrollment deposit is non-refundable and is credited on your first semester tuition payment.
A 500-word personal statement is required. The following prompts are provided:
- What motivates you to become a BSN prepared nurse?
- What is your vision of your nursing career?
- What mark will you leave in healthcare?
Two professional references are required. You will need your references email address as NursingCAS sends them a link to complete their recommendation. Examples of professional references include faculty, advisors, supervisors. Family and friends are not considered professional references.
In addition to the above requirements, accelerated applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in another field prior to starting the program. Accelerated applicants also complete an interview with two faculty members. The interview process is designed to make sure applicants are understand the rigor of completing nursing coursework in a calendar year.
Applicants who are offered and accept admission to a UNMC College of Nursing program are admitted pending final submission of items that will be requested. Such items will include:
- proof of current health immunizations as outlined by UNMC Student Health
- a criminal history and abuse/neglect background check
- a copy of a current BLS certification
- completion of UNMC required compliance trainings
- proof of a current unencumbered RN license (RN to BSN)
The offer of admission will be withdrawn for students who do not comply with all enrollment criteria by the required deadline.
