Financial Aid
We strive to make UNMC nursing education affordable.
Review the Office of Financial Aid website for more information about financial aid at UNMC.
For Federal Aid consideration, students must complete the FAFSA. Be sure to include the University of Nebraska Medical Center's institutional code on the form. The code is 006895. If you have already filed a FAFSA but did not include our school code, you can contact the financial aid office for assistance. You do not need to file another form.
For additional assistance you may visit Education Quest, which provides free services to help plan and pay for college.
If you would like more information about financing your education, please call the UNMC financial aid office at 402-559-4199 or 800-626-8431 ext. 4199 or visit the UNMC Financial Aid web site.
What types of financial aid are available?
Scholarships offered at UNMC are provided by the University of Nebraska Foundation's fundraising efforts and a variety of private donors. Most awards are made based on merit or financial need. Scholarship Committees in each of the respective colleges and programs make recipient selections. Selections are not made by the Office of Financial Aid.
To complete the UNMC Scholarship Application, you must have a UNMC ID and Password. Once you have received your login information, we encourage you to submit your UNMC Scholarship Application through MyRecords. Learn more about scholarships at UNMC and review application instructions. The deadline to apply is April 1 or within 30 days after acceptance if accepted after April 1. One application is used for all scholarship awards made by the College of Nursing. Limited scholarship money is available for academic merit, financial need and specific donor criteria. Scholarships are awarded annually and are not guaranteed for following years. You are strongly encouraged to apply each year.
Pell Grant awards are reserved for students who do not already hold a bachelor's degree and are enrolled in an undergraduate degree seeking program. This is federal gift aid and is usually considered the foundation of a student's financial aid package. It is the base upon which other awards are built. Annual Pell Grant awards are dependent on your financial need, your Expected Family Contribution, and the number of hours you are enrolled.
The Nebraska Opportunity Grant (NOG) is available to undergraduate students with high levels of need. This is a combination of federal and gift aid administered through the state of Nebraska.
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is a federal gift aid awarded to undergraduate students with high levels of financial need.
To be considered for grant aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Grants are based on financial need and do not have to be repaid. UNMC's Financial Aid office has more information.
Federal student loans are funds provided to undergraduate and graduate/professional students for educational expenses and must be repaid. Students must file the FAFSA every academic year, meet federal student aid eligibility requirements, be admitted into a degree-seeking program, and be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible for these loan funds.
You may be eligible to receive a variety of loans. Completing the FAFSA is the first step. UNMC's Financial Aid office has more information.
The Office of Financial Aid may not be able to fund your entire cost of attendance with grants, scholarships, and federal student loan aid. You have been awarded an OTHER PRIVATE LOAN as a "placeholder" award to indicate your eligibility for a private loan.
The Other Private Loan option most often requires a credit-worthy co-signer for approval. Students are strongly encouraged to apply with a co-signer to ensure the lowest interest rate possible on the approved loan. The loan application will require a credit check on both the borrower and the co-signer.
