Faculty Awards

The Teaching Excellence Award: Dean of the College of Nursing acknowledges a current full or part-time faculty member for his/her teaching excellence. Nominations from undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and alumni are encouraged.
Eligibility:
All current full and part-time College of Nursing faculty are eligible for nomination.
The Teaching Excellence Award: Rosalee C. Yeaworth acknowledges a current full or part-time faculty member for his/her teaching excellence. Nominations from undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and alumni are encouraged.

All current full and part-time College of Nursing faculty are eligible for nomination.
The Ada M. Lindsey Professional Service Award acknowledges a current full or part-time faculty member for his/her service (clinical practice or professional service) excellence. Nominations from undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and alumni are encouraged.
Eligibility:
All current full and part-time College of Nursing Faculty are eligible for nomination. The award is given annually. In odd years, the award will be for excellence in Clinical Practice, and in even years, the award will be for excellence in Professional Service. This year (spring 2025), the award will be given for Clinical Practice.
Kathryn Sandahl Philp is a UNMC CON alumna. This award was established in her honor by her daughter. The intent of the award is to acknowledge and support faculty creativity and innovation in any of the following areas: teaching, research, or practice/service.
Eligibility:
All current full and part-time College of Nursing faculty are eligible for nomination. Nominations must be for an individual and not for a team. Faculty may be nominated for the award in any one of the following areas: teaching, research, or practice/service. Nominations from faculty, students, staff, alumni, and volunteer faculty are encouraged.
Pennie Z. Davis supported many philanthropic efforts in Omaha and was a fervent supporter of scholarly endeavors. He established this award to recognize the contributions to nursing science of a College of Nursing faculty researcher.
Eligibility:
Current full time College of Nursing faculty who have an active research program are eligible for nomination. The award is for an individual and not for a team of researchers. The applicant should have not won the award in the last 5 years. The nominee’s research program should extend beyond and build on their dissertation research or other prior research.
Donna Westmoreland was a spirited nurse educator who believed that mentoring and coaching were the best methods to enable faculty to discover their voice and develop their unique capacity as a teacher and scholar.
Eligibility:
All current full time College of Nursing faculty are eligible for nomination. A candidate qualifies for this award who has demonstrated excellence in mentoring faculty or graduate assistants in teaching or teaching scholarship. Nominations from faculty, students, staff, alumni, and volunteer faculty are encouraged.
Presented to a faculty member (full time or part time), group of faculty members, or faculty administrator who during the academic year has demonstrated the spirit of shared governance.
The Distinguished TEAM award is an annual CON achievement honor. The intent of this award is to acknowledge and support staff and faculty who contribute excellence at the UNMC College of Nursing through teamwork that benefits many.
Staff Awards
Deadline: March 15
The award will be presented to a staff member who has made exemplary contribution to the College of Nursing in the past year. Criteria for this award includes: 1) embodies excellence, 2) customer service 3) respects individuals for their cultures, contributions and points of view.
Eligibility:
Current College of Nursing staff holding an FTE of 0.5 or greater who were hired on or before January 1, 2024.
The award will be presented to a staff member who has made exemplary leadership contribution to the College of Nursing in the past year. Criteria for this award includes: 1) Superior leadership skills, 2) Fosters an environment of cooperation and creativity, 3) Organization and planning 4) Project management.
Eligibility:
Current College of Nursing staff holding an FTE of 0.5 or greater who were hired on or before January 1, 2024.
This award recognizes and honors an individual who has had a meaningful impact within the UNMC College of Nursing by consistently demonstrating a positive attitude, dedication, initiative and the ability to work together toward a common vision. Their actions serve to motivate colleagues and customers and help to make the College a more inclusive and welcoming place to work.
Eligibility:
Current College of Nursing staff holding an FTE of 0.5 or greater who were hired on or before January 1, 2024.
This award acknowledges a current full-time staff member for his/her service excellence to the UNMC College of Nursing. Recipients of the staff award shall be selected based on exemplary service or leadership and commitment to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Nursing.
Eligibility:
Current full-time College of Nursing staff hired on or before January 1, 2024.
