2002 Cattlemen’s Ball to feature first Cancer Hero’s Wall
The 2002 Cattlemen’s Ball will feature its first Cancer Hero’s Wall, with photos, poems and memorabilia of those who have fought cancer. The ball will be Saturday, June 1 at the Benes Cattle Company near Valparaiso, Neb.

Air Force captain earns pharmacy’s Preceptor of Year award
Capt. Joshua Devine, Pharm.D., has gained a reputation as a bit of a task-master among UNMC College of Pharmacy students.
It’s a role that doesn’t bother Dr. Devine, a preceptor for fourth-year students. In fact, he knows that by challenging students, he’s pushing them toward fulfilling their potential as pharmacists. This year’s College of Pharmacy graduates realized the value of the rotation with Dr. Devine, as they voted him the 2002 Preceptor of the Year.

First African-American graduates from UNMC’s clinical perfusion education program
Tunisia Ellis, a five-time gold medal winner at the Nebraska state track meet, recently landed the biggest first-place finish of her life. On May 11, she became the first African-American to receive the master’s degree in clinical perfusion education from UNMC’s School of Allied Health Professions (SAHP) — the top perfusion program in the United States.

Native Omahan graduates from UNMC’s College of Pharmacy
Ramon Ulmar remembers how fellow black students teased him because he was a scholarly bookworm. But, Ulmar stayed focus on his academic dreams. Now the 1994 Omaha Northwest High School graduate has his Pharm.D. degree from UNMC’s College of Pharmacy.

Inventor recognition reception May 23
UNeMed Corporation, UNMC’s technology marketing and licensing organization, and the UNMC Intellectual Property Office (IPO), will acknowledge UNMC inventors Thursday, May 23 during this year’s annual Inventors Recognition Reception.
The reception, open to all UNMC inventors, will be from 4 to 6 p.m. in the University Hospital Private Dining Room. Thursday’s reception will specifically recognize inventors on six UNMC patents issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office between February 2000 and December 2001.

Chicago native joins UNMC College of Pharmacy faculty
Beata Ineck, Pharm.D., likes the variety that academic pharmacy offers, and she appreciates how the UNMC College of Pharmacy treats its students as more than just numbers.
She also enjoys making a difference in the lives of primary care patients.
In Omaha, Dr. Ineck will have the opportunity to fill both roles, as the newest college faculty member will split her time between UNMC and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
