Former Surgeon Gen. to address health-care disparities

Former U.S. Surgeon Gen. Dr. David Satcher will be the keynote speaker at “Patterns of Transcultural Health Care,” a conference that will focus on delivering culturally and linguistically appropriate health care to diverse populations. Dr. Satcher will speak Thursday, Aug. 22 at 10:15 a.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Omaha.

UNMC/NHS to build epilepsy program

UNMC/NHS is providing new hope for patients with epilepsy by building the first comprehensive program of its kind in Nebraska and the surrounding states.

Sanjay Singh, M.D., joined UNMC’s neurological sciences department in July as the state’s first trained epileptologist. He will lead the Nebraska Epilepsy Program.

Dr. Olade focuses on elderly, nursing education

One woman’s journey into nursing education began with an opportunity she purposely missed.

Rosaline Olade, Ph.D., skipped her high school graduation to avoid a prearranged career in teaching. Today, she is an associate professor in the UNMC College of Nursing, department of gerontological, psychosocial & community health nursing.

UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., recently visited the Nebraska communities of Cozad, Lexington and Holdrege. Sandy Goetzinger-Comer, director of public affairs, and Dan Chambers, program coordinator for the Rural Health Education Network, joined him on the July 31 and Aug. 1 trip.

Team Kaos competes in criterium

UNMC, NHS and UMA sponsor Team Kaos, one of the driving forces in Nebraska cycling. The squad recently promoted and competed in the second annual Omaha Criterium, a two-day biking event to benefit the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center.
