Leader of Association of Academic Health Centers visit postponed
Due to inclement weather in the Washington, D.C., area, the president and CEO of the Association of Academic Health Centers (AHC) will not visit UNMC today and Friday, as planned. The visit of Roger J. Bulger, M.D., is being rescheduled for early 2003.

UNMC lung specialist: People with COPD suffer needlessly
Though more than 80 percent of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is caused by cigarette smoking, a surprising number of people with COPD in the United States and Europe don’t believe there’s much that can be done to help their condition. In addition, those people don’t often ask for treatment, according to the results of an international survey. Stephen Rennard, M.D., Larson Professor of Medicine at UNMC, published the first in a series of articles in the European Respiratory Journal addressing some of the issues raised by the survey. Survey supports UNMC research on chicken soup
As cold and flu season descends on the United States, a recently released national survey of 20,000 family physicians confirms what moms have known all along – eating chicken soup can help manage the misery of cold symptoms. The findings of the survey reaffirm research done earlier at UNMC that suggests chicken soup may contain a number of substances that can ease the symptoms of upper respiratory infections.

Splashes of blue add a finishing touch to the UNMC College of Dentistry’s new Central Sterilization and Dispensing Area. Inside the 1,500 square-foot room, instruments are cleaned, sterilized, packaged and distributed using state-of-the art procedures and equipment.
