UNMC to hold campus blood drive Jan. 2

UNMC will host an extra blood drive on campus from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Center for Healthy Living.

Peter Pellerito, who organizes the campus blood drives, said that the extra blood drive was scheduled in response to a request from the Red Cross and with the consent of NHS. The NHS blood drive that is set for Jan. 22 will take place as scheduled.See story for more details.

UNMC nurse practitioner named to state board

Lynne M. Buchanan, Ph.D., assistant professor of nursing in UNMC’s College of Nursing, recently was appointed to serve on the Board of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses for a four-year term. The State Board of Health, Nebraska Health and Human Services System appointed her.

NHS among first to use ‘camera in a pill’

NHS is among the first in the region to use a new medical technology — capsule endoscope — that allows physicians to see what no one has been able to fully capture before — the entire length of the human small intestine. NHS began offering the diagnostic procedure in mid-November.
